Fix it

My website isn't on my domain yet

Your domain shows Working once it answers with your website over a secure connection. Until then, check the record where you bought the domain, press Check now, and give it a few minutes.

Your own domain works once the record it shows is added where you bought it, usually a few minutes later. If yours doesn't, here's what to check.

See what your domain shows

  1. Open Website, then your website.

  2. Open Go live.

  3. Under Your own domain, each domain shows where it's up to:

Waiting for the recordThe record isn't there yet, or not as it should beAdd the record exactly as shown, where you bought your domain, then press Check now

Check the record

  • Copy it with one click, so nothing is mistyped.
  • Add it at the company you bought the domain from, in its DNS settings.
  • Use the type it shows: CNAME for an address like www.yourdomain.com, ALIAS for the domain itself. Some domain companies call ALIAS ANAME.

Give it a few minutes

A new record takes a little while to reach everyone. Your domain is checked again every 10 minutes for its first 2 hours, then less often, so you don't have to come back.

Good to know

Until your domain works, your website stays live on its free address, and your links point at the one that works. No one is sent to a dead end.

Something already on your domain?

If something already answers on your domain, your website goes on an unused address beneath it. What's there is never taken over.

How it works: How your website gets its address.
