How it works

How you get paid

Buyers pay the ways you switch on: by card through Stripe, by bank transfer, on pickup or cash on delivery. Each order then moves from paid to sent or collected, to completed.

Your shop takes payment the ways you choose. Card payments go straight to your own Stripe account, and every order moves from paid, to sent or collected, to completed.

The ways you switch on

Way to payHow it works
By cardThe buyer pays on Stripe's own page, and the money goes straight to your own Stripe account.
Bank transferThe order waits until you mark it paid.
Pay on pickupThe goods go first, and the money follows at the counter.
Cash on deliveryThe goods go first, and the money follows at the door.

From paid to completed

StepWhen
PaidWhen the card goes through. For the other ways, when you mark it paid, once you've seen the money arrive.
Sent or collectedWhen you mark it sent, with tracking if you have it, or mark it collected
CompletedOnce it's paid, and sent or collected

When you mark an order sent, the buyer is emailed once that it's on its way. The box that sends that email is ticked to start with. Every change is written on the order's timeline.

Where you set it up

  1. Shop settings start with your Currency, and your Tax: Prices include tax, or tax added at checkout.

  2. Delivery lists your options, in the order checkout shows them: a flat price, free, or pick up.

  3. Press Connect Stripe to take cards. The money goes straight to your own Stripe account.

  4. Switch on Bank transfer, Pay on pickup or Cash on delivery, each with what buyers see after ordering.

Set up delivery and payments takes you through each setting.

Why it works

A card order is marked paid only when Stripe confirms the payment, never on the buyer's word. If the card is refused, or the payment times out or expires, the order is voided and its stock goes back, so an order nobody paid for never reaches you. And every change is written on the order's timeline.
